About Type Test
Type Test measures typing speed the standard way. You are given a single sentence. Type it exactly as shown, and the game reports how many words a minute you managed and how accurate you were.
How it works
Nothing is timed until you press the first key. As you type, the sentence above the box shows your progress: green for letters you have right, a red block for any that are wrong, and an underline for the next letter expected.
The test only ends when what you have typed matches the sentence perfectly, capital letters and full stop included. If you make a mistake, go back and correct it.
Speed is calculated in the usual manner, counting every five characters as one word. Accuracy is based on how many wrong characters you typed along the way, whether or not you fixed them.
What the numbers mean
Typing with two fingers, most people manage twenty to thirty words a minute. A comfortable touch typist is usually somewhere between forty and sixty. Above eighty is fast. On a phone, results are generally lower than on a full keyboard.
A single sentence is a short sample, so your score will vary from one attempt to the next. Take a few and look at the typical figure.
Typing faster
Accuracy first. Every correction costs more time than typing slowly would have. If your accuracy is under ninety-five per cent, slow down and your speed will rise.
Look at the sentence, not your hands. Read a word or two ahead of what your fingers are doing.
Keep an even pace. Bursts followed by stumbles are slower than a steady rhythm.
Do not forget the capital and the full stop. They are the most commonly missed characters.
As HTML5 games go it is more of a tool than a game, and a useful one to come back to.
